Keynote Speaker: Lü Xiao (Postdoctoral Fellow at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Director of the Theoretical Research Department at the Beijing Academy of Painting, Researcher, Secretary-General of the “Qi Baishi Art International Research Center,” and Member of the Theoretical Committee of the China Artists Association)
Lecture Content: “Mountains and Waters of the Heart, Unique Under Heaven—The Creative Journey and Characteristics of Qi Baishi’s Landscape Paintings”

In his lecture, Dr. Lü Xiao discussed the developmental trajectory and distinctive features of Qi Baishi’s landscape paintings at various stages. For instance, he examined the significance of “The Illustrated Guide to Painting from Jiezi Garden,” the influence of renowned artists from Huxiang, the comparison between Qi Baishi’s early works and real-life landscapes, and the “Twenty-Four Views of Shimeng.” Through this analysis, Dr. Lü highlighted the unique characteristics and special qualities of Qi Baishi’s landscape paintings. He summarized these distinctive features as follows: 1. Deeply ashamed to merely copy others’ works—instead, I paint my own; 2. Natural charm surpasses artificial skill, with ingenious and extraordinary creativity; 3. Employing simple, unrefined brushwork yet achieving rich and vibrant coloring.
